Rent cash gone with wallet

By JOLENE OGLE

A TEWANTIN woman is pleading for the return of her daughter’s wallet after it was left on a supermarket bench last week.
On 15 June, Karen Glaser went to pay rent at a bank in Tewantin, and as the bank wasn’t yet open, she popped to the shops to run some errands.
Karen accidently left her purple crocodile skin-style wallet on the counter with over $1000 inside.
It wasn’t until she had crossed the road and went into a newsagent that she realised she had lost her purse but by the time she had run back to the supermarket, the wallet was gone.
“It’s just overwhelming,” Karen said.
“I couldn’t believe it had happened.”
Karen, who works two part-time jobs to make ends meet, said she knew the money would be gone but was also upset she would now have to replace all the cards in her wallet including her licence, medicare card, Blue Card and so much more.
Karen’s mum, Marilyn, wrote to Noosa Today upset the wallet wasn’t handed into the store when it was found.
“So much for decency and honesty,” she said. “She was left with $3 in her bank!”
Marilyn had this message for the person who had taken the distinctive purple wallet;
“If the person who took her purse can’t find it in their heart to return her money and purse, would you at least return the rest of the items, bearing in mind that her address is on the back of the licence,” she said.
Ironically, just a few months ago Karen found a wallet across the road from the RSL.
“There was cash in the wallet and a RSL card,” Marilyn said.
“Karen took (the wallet) across to the RSL and the grateful owner claimed it. My daughter said to me, ‘I’d just like to think that if ever I lost my purse that some honest person would do the same for me’. I guess that was not to be.”
If anyone has any information about the missing wallet, phone Noosa Today on 5455 6964 from Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm.
