Police tackle the fatal five

RESIDENTS may have noticed an increase in police on the roads this week with officers focussing on one of the road toll’s fatal five issues each day.
On Monday, the beginning of Road Safety Week saw police stationed throughout the shire looking for distracted drivers using a mobile phone while driving.
Random breath test (RBT) sites were also set up in specific locations including on Weyba Road and Castaways Beach.
On Tuesday, police targeted speeding and on Wednesday officers headed to Noosa North Shore to target fatigue and drink driving while handing out fliers to remind beach users of the road rules.
Today (Thursday 25 September), officers will be patrolling the streets on bicycles reminding drivers to share the road.
Tomorrow is the final day of the blitz and drivers are warned there will be major RBT sites set-up throughout the Sunshine Coast and Noosa.
Noosa Heads officer in charge Senior Sergeant Steve McReight said he couldn’t reveal where the RBTs would be set-up but warned drivers to not drink and drive.
“You will get caught,” he said.
“We will have officers stationed throughout the shire.”
