Noosa River becomes the classroom

By Paul Blundell

THE Noosa River is to be the classroom for the Riggers Schools Pilot Rowing Program.
The School Riggers Rowing program will be a mix of indoor and on water rowing and will focus on remaining safe, learning to row while having fun and coming back for more.
It is for the unsporting and the sporting because rowing can be enjoyed at all levels.
This exciting innovative study is in conjunction with Rowing Australia, La Trobe University and three other facilities throughout Australia including Noosa Yacht and Rowing Club.
There are two schools engaging in this program, Good Shepherd Lutheran College and Noosa Pengari for the next three terms with different students attending each term.
At the completion of this study, a working model will be introduced throughout Australia under the Sporting Schools funding.
Organisers of the program see a very exciting future for the youth of the Noosa region, and are looking out for proactive young people wishing to immerse themselves into rowing with the aim of becoming youth coaches, such as university students studying sport for instance.
The aim is to create a model for a sustainable rowing program in a regional area.
Rowing is for all ages with ongoing Learn to Row classes available.
For all inquiries email: rowing@nyrc.com.au or phone NYRC 54407400 for contact numbers.
