Fabulous Fakes on show

Artist Lies Donovan was given a challenge, to copy one of the great masters to further her artistic capabilities by her art teacher at the time, Lyn Mcrae. Brush in hand she set of on a journey of copying the great masters.
The very first of these is a “Still Life with Ginger Jar and Eggplants” painted in 1894 by the French artist Paul Cezanne. Once completed she commenced on her next “fabulous fake”. Her appetite for painting “after the masters” commenced here and is ongoing.
The exhibition – aptly named Fabulous Fakes – has paintings from the artists Cezanne, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Mogdigliani, Vermeer and many others. The works are predominantly oil paintings, but include pastel drawings and black and white charcoal impressions of famous photographers.
To view the priceless originals of these “fakes” you would have to travel far and wide. To own one of the original paintings would be beyond one’s wildest dreams. However, Lies has produced some beautiful paintings which no doubt will satisfy your curiosity and bring you enjoyment.
Fabulous Fakes Art Exhibition runs from 28 October until 17 November, at the Pomona Railway Station Gallery in Pomona.
