Queensland’s rising golf stars were shining bright at Noosa Springs as they took their best shot at qualifying for a career in tournament golf.
More than 50 gun golfers hoping to gain their tour card descended on Noosa Springs last Monday (15 December) for the start of Q School, a two-stage qualifying process for entry to the PGA Tour of Australasian Tournaments 2015.
Only golfers with a handicap of 2.4 or less were eligible to join and compete with the pros at the PGA-run Q School.
Noosa Springs was one of three Australian golf courses hosting the First Stage of Q School from 17 to 19 December.
The next stages will be held concurrently at Riverside Oaks, NSW and Sandhurst Golf Club, Victoria.
The cream of Australia’s golfers played three qualifying rounds to get into the final stage at Victoria Golf Club on 6-9 January, with only 30 per cent of competitors advancing to the next level.
The stakes are high as the winner of Q School will gain an exemption category for the 2015 season equivalent to winning a Tier 2 Tournament on the PGA Tour of Australasia, plus the opportunity to compete professionally at a local and international level via the OneAsia Tour.
Noosa Springs executive general manager Mark Brady said it was a great thrill to be selected by the PGA to host this prestigious event and is a testament to the high quality design and presentation of the championship golf course.
The course is specifically designed to provide a test for the professional golfer and an enjoyable experience for the average golfer on undulating fairways in a natural bushland setting alongside spring fed lakes which teem with native wildlife.
“We’re keen to see how young up-and-coming pro golfers handle the challenge of our course,” Mr Brady said.
