READING is about to come alive with the eighth annual Bendigo Bank Readers’ Cup to be held at Noosaville State School.
Over the next few weeks, students representing their classes will participate in a competition where a selection of books are read and then questions are asked in a game show format in front of adjudicators.
Readers’ Cup competitions challenge students to read widely, work collaboratively in a team and continue developing a love of reading.
In a graded “knock-out” format, the winning classes from three year levels will be the teams that answer the most questions correctly.
The concept has proven to be a real hit with students of all ages and a fun way to inspire reading with a little competitiveness between the classes. It also ensures all children at Noosaville State School see the fun in reading.
Noosaville State School Readers’ Cup co-ordinator Sandi Brechbuhl said the competition’s popularity had grown from strength to strength in the past eight years.
“The students and teachers are looking forward to the next three weeks of competition. There will be great excitement when the final teams compete for the Readers’ Cup on 9 June,” Ms Brechbuhl said.
“Reading is such an important part of all our lives and this event has become an integral part of Noosaville’s focus on academic success and enjoyment.”
Tewantin Community Bank branch manager Wayne Hoens said the bank was delighted about its continued involvement with Noosaville State School.
‘‘We’ve been behind the Readers’ Cup since 2009 and look forward to it every year. It’s a great initiative from Noosaville State School,” Mr Hoens said.
“It certainly looks like Readers’ Cup is going to be even bigger and better in 2016.”
