NOOSA is leading the way with Australia’s first Food Trail website that aims to bring together local producers and consumers.
Developed by Noosa Farmers’ Market’s Shane Stanley, the smartphone-friendly website will allow users to search by produce, producer and market to create a personalised Google map food trail.
Supported by Tourism Noosa, the website will allow visitors to track down some of Noosa’s best local produce and make a day of travelling throughout the region visiting local markets and farms.
For Shane, farming is all about working together and creating a support network where local farmers can gain knowledge in the industry.
“It’s important for people to come together,” he said.
“That is why it’s free for producers to register with the website. We want to create networks,” he said.
Councillor Sandy Bolton, who is leading the current review into the Rural Futures Strategy, was on hand to test run the website when she visited Shambhala Farm, Doonan.
“This is awesome; a great way to connect people to local farms. I look forward to the day when we can have a Noosa shop,” she said.
“Somewhere we can all go to enjoy such wonderful local products and produce.”
As part of Council’s Rural Future activities, Cr Bolton will host a film and networking night at The J, Noosa Junction, 2 July, from 6.30pm.
“Ideas for a prosperous farming culture and industry in Noosa is all about networking,” she said.
“It’s important for people to have other farmers to talk to about farming and produce.”
A series of short films that document RegenAg’s 2013 study tour will be shown on the night, and is a great opportunity for current or potential farmers, as well as anyone who cares about food sources and the environment, to learn more about the industry.
Entry to the networking night is by gold coin donation. Visit www.thej.com.au for more information.
The official launch date of the Noosa Food Trail website is to be announced.
