Olympian joins in for school’s special day

ST Andrew’s Anglican College recently celebrated their 14th birthday with the help of a very special visitor.
The school’s Foundation Day, held on Friday 17 June, was a celebration of 14 years of operation with special guest, former St Andrew’s student and current Australian swimming champion Jake Packard dropping by to celebrate the milestone.
Jake graduated in the class of 2012 and as the current 100m Australian breaststroke champion is also a member of the 2016 Olympic swim team headed for the Olympics in Rio.
Jake shared his excitement at reaching his Olympic dream with students, parents and staff alike, reflecting on his time at school and how the support he received enabled him to combine both training and school.
“Being able to study Year 11 and 12 over three years helped me to achieve my dream,” he said.
“I was very fortunate that the support I received from staff allowed me to juggle study with the intense training schedule.”
While his studying of a science degree at QUT has been put on hold for the time being, Jake is looking ahead to a great experience as part of the Olympic team.
All of Australia – and in particular the entire St Andrew’s community – will be cheering as he dives into the pool.
