Crossroads of life bared

By Hollie Harris

STILL is an Adults Only production directed by Cooran-based writer, director, producer, actor and NIDA teacher Louise Bezel showing at Noosa Arts Theatre on 7, 8, 9 October and then at Pomona’s Majestic Theatre on 15 October.
This coast to country collaboration will see Noosa Arts Theatre tour the production to Pomona for one-night only, thanks to a Regional Arts Development Fund grant.
Written by Jane Bodie, former head of Playwriting at the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA), STILL is a series of eight monologues exploring the nature of want.
The play focuses on characters at epic crossroads and shares their journey as they each search for meaning and human connection in unexpected places.
The play weaves through the personal humiliation of failed relationships to the agonising state of denial that bumping into your ex-lover and their new partner at the supermarket causes.
There are certainly black comedy elements to these monologues and you may find laughter bubbling up from inside in recognition.
The eight engaging monologues are presented by talented actors ranging in age from 20 years old to over 50s, including Madeleine Carter, Claire Fermo, Sharon Grimley, Stephen Moore, James Patrick Reed, Ben Snaath, Andree Stark and Frank Wilkie as you’ve never seen them before.
Director Louise Bezel graduated from the prestigious London Guildhall School of Music and Drama; Louise subsequently worked for the Royal Shakespeare Theatre Company and has appeared in a number of Australian films, television series and television commercials.
Louise is currently working with young actors at NIDA in Brisbane.
“I love to be moved by stories … I love to reinvent conventional theatre.
“This show is appealingly raw and subject matter is uncensored, essentially unleashing the full theatricality of Jane Bodies’ written words,’ Louise said.
STILL exposes the truth and mayhem of relationships with searing wit and empathy and creates a space for a unique theatre experience.
The show is 16+ with Coarse Language and Adult Themes, and tickets are $25 or $20 with concession.
Noosa Arts Theatre shows are on 7 and 8 October at 7.30pm or 9 October at 2pm with tickets available on 5449 9343 or at
www.noosaartstheatre.org.au
The Majestic Theatre, Pomona show is on 15 October at 8pm with tickets available on 5485 2330 or www.themajestictheatre.com.au
