Rush time in Gympie

By Hollie Harris

OCTOBER in Gympie has to be the most exciting time of year with an entire month of entertainment as Rush Festival kicks off with a bang this Saturday followed by a string of local and international talent to choose from.
This year will be even bigger and better than before with some incredible bands, workshops, classic cars and bikes, kids activities and the Mary Street parade all coming together to celebrate the arts and creative culture in the Gympie region.
Gympie grew into a small prosperous town during the gold rush after James Nash discovered gold in a creek subsidiary of the Mary River in 1867, and this event has celebrated every year during October at what is now called the Rush Festival.
The October Rush Festival offers an exhilarating program of music, visual arts, film, and free outdoor events in the Gympie region.
If music is your thing, you won’t want to miss Mental As Anything on 15 October or Taxiride, 28 days and British India on 23 October. All music is free and event details can be found online at www.rushfestival.com.au.
There is a huge range of options to check out including The Heart of Gold short film festival, Comedy Film Trails, Roaring 20s Cabaret, Mandolin and guitar workshops and so much more.
Eight time ARIA nominee Justice Crew perform at the Civic Centre on Sunday 2 October. Tickets are $38.50 and can be purchased online at www.rushfestival.com.au.
Check out the long line of events and activities for the whole family; no matter what your fancy, the Rush Festival has something for you this October.
