The Guilded Lilies Sewing Circle Christmas and last meeting for 2014 will be held on Saturday 29 November, 9am to 3pm at the Masonic Hall, Moorindil Street, Tewantin. Changes to diet needed to restore environment
This week’s guest speaker at Friday Environment Forum is Anne-Marie Dineen who believes that if we want to preserve and restore our environment in Australia, we must make changes to our diet. Come along to the Noosa Parks Association Environment Centre, Wallace Drive, Noosaville, on Friday 21 November, when Ms Dineen shares her ideas on what can be done to make our diets more sustainable and healthy with some simple and tasty changes to our consumption. The forum starts at 10.30am with coffee from 10am. Bird observers meet in the car park at 8.30am for interpretive birding.
Music Club
Tewantin Noosa Music Club would like to wish all “compliments of the season”. U3A Noosa
U3A Noosa presents Dr Ken Lynn with a wonderful story telling of the great Minoan Civilisation and the deciphering of linear B. To be held at the U3A house Friday 5 December, from 1.45pm. Everyone is welcome and afternoon tea will be served.
The Minoan civilization, centred on Crete, is one of the oldest and most interesting of ancient civilisations first brought to light by the English archaeologist Sir Arthur Evans. It is characterised by art work which still resonates today and was exceptional for the important role women played in all aspects of life including religion. Minoan palaces lacked fortifications and military activity was notable by its absence. The relation between Minoan civilization and the war-like Mycenaean of mainland Greece is explored. The Minoan written language of linear B was fully deciphered after World War II by the amateur, Michael Ventris, based on the more professional work of Alice Kober. The lives of these obsessed people can be seen as either inspirational or cautionary. The talk is richly illustrated. U3A House is opposite the Shell Service Station, 64 Poinciana Avenue, Tewantin.
