Schoolies resort to a good time

By JONATHON HOWARD

NOOSA has once again offered year-12 graduates an attractive alternative from the chaos of the Gold Coast to celebrate schoolies this week.
Almost 200 school leavers have booked across two weeks of graduation celebrations at Noosa International Resort and Apartments.
Noosa International advertises on the “schoolies.com” website as one of Noosa’s best destinations for school leavers.
Each schoolie is required to sign a security check which includes contact details for a parent or guardian and they are given security guidelines during their stay.
Beerwah State High School graduate Kieran Griffiths said he chose Noosa because he was looking for a more relaxed school break.
“I just wanted somewhere a little quieter to spend with friends for the week,” he said.
“There’s not been much schoolies activities in Noosa but we’re enjoying exploring and doing our own thing.”
Jordan Dron also from Beerwah said most of the 90 schoolies staying at Noosa International had been a little shy on the first night.
“But we’re all friends now,” she said.
“Noosa’s been awesome – we’ve been to the beach and shopping at Hastings Street and visiting places around Noosa.
“I think most of the schoolies were a bit shy on the first night but we’re all getting to know each other and it’s really fun.”
Brisbane St Pauls graduate Clifford Williams said he’s been working on his dance moves while enjoying good company.
“My friends brought me here,” he said.
“I preferred Noosa to be with friends and it’s a bit quieter, which is nice.”
Schoolies will continue next week following the NSW year-12 graduations.
Schoolies will this year inject about $1.5 million across Noosa and the Sunshine Coast from about 1000 school leavers.
