Take a break and arrive alive

When you're facing the long road ahead, make sure you plan to rest and revive every two hours.

SO far this year, 202 people have died in car crashes on Queensland roads and the coming holiday season often means a spike in deaths on the roads.
Police and the government are urging drivers to take care when travelling these Christmas holidays, and RACQ has provided a list of tips to help you and your family stay safe when travelling.
The RACQ recommends starting preparations the night before you leave by making sure you eat properly, and not too heavily, and make sure you get plenty of rest.
Try not to leave too early in the morning and avoid drinking alcohol the day before you plan to travel.
Driver fatigue is a proven killer on Queensland highways, so when you have a big trip ahead, it’s important to plan for 15-minute breaks every two hours – stop, rest, revive.
Some signs of fatigue include yawning, heavy eyes, sweaty hands, humming in the ears, unintentional changes in vehicle speed and stiffness or cramps.
The RACQ said if you experience any of these signs, pull over when it is safe to do so, lock the doors and sleep until you feel refreshed.
