‘Wicked’ comedy is captivating

THE Noosa Arts Theatre presents The Female of the Species, a “deliciously wicked” comedy written by Joanne Murray-Smith.
Inspired by Germaine Greer’s experience of being held captive in her country home, The Female of the Species has been described as part hostage drama, part satire, and part outrageous farce.
The play tells the story of feminist author Margot Mason who is visit by a woman, Molly, who at first seems to be her biggest fan, but Molly hasn’t come to praise Margot.
Molly claims her mother abandoned her in infancy under the influence of Mason’s writing and later died clutching a copy of Margot’s book, The Cerebral Vagina.
A succession of visitors and comedic events interrupt Molly, as the play explores “what women want” and the distinction between the male and female of the species.
Reviewed as a hilarious, sometimes insane, production, The Female of the Species will surely entertain a wide audience.
The Female of the Species is directed by Sue Clapham and stars Sharon Grimley, Anna McMahon, Karina Seale, Stephen Moore and Colin Donnelly.
The Female of the Species starts tonight with a cut-price preview with tickets only $20 for the 7.30pm show.
The next performance is Friday night, 28 November, Saturday 29 November, and 4, 5, and 6 December, at 7.30pm.
