The Eumundi School of Rock, created by award-winning songstress Katie Noonan, will celebrate the end of their three-month program with a concert on Sunday 3 December.
The night will include performances by Katie Noonan and Abby Dobson (formerly of Leonardo’s Bride) as well as showcasing 20 young musicians from Years 3 to 8 who have been musically trained and mentored in a range of musical disciplines from drums to bass, keys, brass, guitar and vocals.
All artists performing at the end-of-year concert will be performing for free, with the profits going directly towards keeping the program free for the community in 2018.
This year’s event will also feature a mini documentary screening, showcasing the program.
The School Of Rock Program exists to give local kids scholarships for mentoring by some of Australia’s best musicians.
This year’s tutoring team includes bassist/trumpeter Owen Newcomb, guitarist/vocalist Shannon Sol Carroll, drummer Alice Jones, vocalist Clint Francis, pianist Andrew Szumowski and National Jazz Award-winning Saxophonist, Zac Hurren.
Katie Noonan said while the many benefits of music education had been well documented, it had been beautiful to see this in action – “happy kids with increased self-confidence and self-awareness who sound seriously RAD and rocking to boot”.
Tickets start from $15, with children under five for free.
