Police to appeal sentence

The Queensland Police Service has lodged an appeal against the sentence handed to a Sunshine Coast man charged with assault occasioning bodily harm.

Last week the 29-year-old man was sentenced to 240 hours community service and ordered to pay $24,000 in compensation after pleading guilty to assault occasioning bodily harm against a 23-year-old man at a Sunshine Coast hotel in September 2013.
A conviction was not recorded against the man.
It will be argued the sentence was manifestly inadequate.
The Queensland Police Service lodged the appeal with the District Court at Maroochydore yesterday.
The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions has been requested to take carriage of the case.
Anyone with information which could assist with this matter should contact Crime Stoppers anonymously via 1800 333 000 or www.crimestoppers.com.au 24hrs a day.
