Legendary champion Clinton Stanley led the medal charge for Noosa Masters swimmers at the recent State Championships in Rockhampton. For the first time at the annual competition, the multi-class classification was included, and Clinton reveled in the opportunity. After four days of intense competition, the Down Syndrome former world record holder had collected 12 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze medals.
Among the general classification swimmers, Rob Jolly was outstanding, dominating his age group with ten gold medals. Rob also joined Lois Hill, Brian Hoepper and Jo Matthews in breaking the Queensland state record in the 4×50 Medley Relay. Greg Bott, Linda Hogg, Viv Merrill and Jacky Shields rounded out the team, helping amass a total of 70 individual medals. Noosa placed third overall in the field of 20 clubs.
Clinton returned from Rockhampton after a short holiday on Great Keppel Island to prepare for his role in the Commonwealth Games baton relay in Noosa.
