Our Backyard overwhelms

By KATIE DE VERTEUIL

FUNKY boots, cowboy hats and bright smiles were donned on Sunday as around 100 people gathered at Sunshine Butterflies’ Cooroibah property ‘Our Backyard’ for a country lunch fundraiser.
Organised in conjunction with local restaurant Gaston and Sunshine Coast University, the fundraiser was created to raise money to support the Our Backyard project as well as being an assessment piece for the six public relations students responsible for putting the event together.
With a perfectly sunny morning, the luncheon proved a wonderful success with more than $8000 raised. A figure which Sunshine Butterflies founder Leanne Walsh is overwhelmed by.
“We were hoping for maybe $2000 max on the day, so the support has just been incredible and for this we are extremely grateful,” Leanne said.
Throughout the day, a number of attendees also approached Leanne offering their services to the not-for-profit community organisation. These funds combined with money raised at the Giggle Ball on Friday night will enable building to commence on the site, with an amenities shed and an activities shed first on the list.
