When schools stopped teaching sewing the Guilded Lilies Tewantin Neighbourhood Group joined the Australian sewing guild to takeon the task.
On Saturday they celebrated 20 years learning to sew and building lifelong friendships along the way.
Founder Annette Mole had a fabric and haberdashery shop in Noosaville and started holding classes there.
“There were people out there who wanted to know how to sew and I thought that was great,” she said.
“I rounded up a few people I knew would be helpful and now it’s been going for 20 years. It’s about sharing our knowledge. We have teachers come or one in the group who knows something shows the others how to do it. And we teach beginners to sew.
“One young lady came in with a sewing machine she’d won, still in a box. She said I won it but I don’t know what to do with it. By the end she could sew anything she wanted.”
Annette said she was thrilled to see the group still going so strong.
