OVER 75 local yoga teachers and practitioners came together on Sunday 19 June to salute the sun as part of the worldwide celebration of International Yoga Day.
The yoga enthusiasts stretched out 108 sun salutations in unison as part of the celebrations where the global yoga community comes together as a collective energy forming a symbolic “mala” or garland around the earth.
The sacred number 108 was chosen due to its significance in the practice of yoga, and the belief that the number represents the wholeness of existence.
The Noosa mala of 108 sun salutations was prepared by Yoga Circle and organised with Noosa Yoga School at Noosa Leisure Centre to include all yoga studios and practitioners in Noosa.
Over $1000 was raised on the day with all donations from the free event going to the Katie Rose Hospice in Noosa.
