Midnight blaze burns boards

By JOLENE OGLE

A POLICE investigation is underway to determine the cause of a devastating fire that gutted two iconic Noosa businesses on Tuesday night.
Police believe the fire started at midnight, with the flames tearing through Classic Malibu Surfboards and neighbouring Coastal Dry Cleaning on Eumundi-Noosa Road, Noosaville.
Emergency services were alerted to the fire just after 12.30am when fire alarms went off inside the building.
Fire crews were able to extinguish the fire and stop it from spreading to the neighbouring home.
Classic Malibu Surfboards, who have been a sponsor of Cricks Noosa Festival of Surfing since the carnival began, have been described as a cornerstone of the region’s community for over 20 years with more than 10,000 surfboards hand-crafted inside the factory.
Police investigations are continuing, but arson is not believed to be the cause of the fire.
