COOROY BOWLS
“END of an Era” games are being played this week as the settlement date draws closer.
On Saturday afternoon a large group of players completed the final Saturday Jackpot Pairs competition. G. and N. Duffield were winners with R. Sorrensen and W. Hyatt taking home runners-up prizes.
On Sunday morning champagne flowed with the delicious breakfast prepared by the dedicated volunteers. An exciting final of the mixed pairs was played with only three-points difference making B. Mahoney and A. Lerch victors over G. Green and E. Reece. Players of the months were C. McGrath and S. Hands.
Tuesday Jackpot Pairs winners were B. Mahoney and J. McKechnie from runners-up were R. Butler and J. Kirkman.
The finals of the High Rollers will be played on Thursday night. The Eumundi Boys look unbeatable with Tag Team, Col and Co and Jels in second place.
Negotiations are under way.

NOOSA HEADS BOWLS
NOOSA Heads Bowls Club has two big all-day events coming up next week. On Monday, the monthly Noosa 1500, sponsored by Noosa Junction travel agency Helloworld, and Thursday brings us the Laguna Estate mixed medley. Both events are fully booked and have attracted bowlers from up and down the Coast.
Continuing their hot streak of form, Pat Teale’s recently crowned club champion four took out the first prize at last week’s Caloundra Ladies’ Fiesta. Men’s club pairs champions Shane Burke and Ross Ward competed in the opening rounds of the district Champion-of-Champions play-offs held at Coolum Beach on Sunday, but were bundled out by Mapleton’s top pair.
Bob King and Neville Graham took out the Tuesday comp over David Deane and George Manera.
On Wednesday, the Ladies Triples saw a win to Jeanette Emery, Carol Studley and Gill MacDonald. June Christie (Vic), Eileen McDonald and Heather Rider were runners-up. Steve Bowie and David Deane were in the winners’ circle for Friday Jackpot Pairs, with Kevin Luscombe and Bob Heir having the next biggest margin.
The Saturday Triples went to the strong team of Kerrie Roberts, Frank Turton and David Nimmo.
For the more senior gentlemen, entries are now open for the Veteran Pairs Championship, with matches to be played during June, culminating with the final on Saturday 28 May.
Entries are also open for the Ladies Triples, with the first round to be played on or before Thursday 12 June.

NOOSA TEWANTIN
THE final of the club Ladies’ A-Grade Singles championship was played on Thursday and proved an interesting game. Pat Digby and Pam Wald played good bowls to win through to the final. The match was even in the early stages but Pam dropped 11 shots in three ends in the final stages and could not recover. Both bowlers played a high standard with Pat eventually winning the 2014 title.
The Men’s B-Grade Singles final was played on Saturday between Bryn Whitcombe and Trevor Crosby. This was a Titanic struggle which held onlooker’s attention, Bryn finally took the win 25-23 in a thriller.
The weekly competitions were played without rain interference. The 69ers staged their event on Monday with J. Morrow/Rod Gundersen first, Peter Vignon/Tony Howard second and Ian McCallum/Peter Richardson third.
Tuesday’s Divine Dental Services Two-Bowl Triples was won by Judy Ingram/Mary Williams/Percy Morris from Mary Ross/Joan Pyers/Dave Buckley.
On Wednesday John Madill Triples had John Mohr/Peter Richardson/John Watt winning with the pairs going to Gary Moss/Tony Howard.
Three greens were used for the Priceline Chemist Three-Bowl Triples. Peter Renwick/Peter Vignon/Larry Wilkinson were successful from John Oppy/Ray Sengstock/Wendy Coman. Teams Harry Shaw and Ivan Ivanusec won the jackpot.
President Gary Moss presented the family of Ellie Topliff with a fund raiser cheque from bowlers for $250 towards on-going medical expenses.
The Ladies’ 2014 Triples Championship is underway with a good field competing for the 2014 title. Please check the notice boards for coming events in June.

POMONA BOWLS
THE prestige men’s triples event of the year, The Cooroora Triples, was held over the weekend. After two days of extremely competitive bowls the team of Tony Howard/Bob Mulvogue/Troy Rowley (substituted by Michael Sorrensen on the second day) took home the trophy. Runners-up were Lorry Axiak/Neil Walsh/Bob King.
The ladies held their Past Presidents’ Day on Wednesday with the home team of Sheena Millar/Sam Hands/Glenda Rohde/Veronis O’Connor winning the day.
The Nominated Mixed Pairs was won by Veronis O’Connor and Lorry Axiak, from runners-up Steve Chandler and Jennie Smith. Last round winners were Gaye Bible and Russell Murray.
Twilight bowls was won by Russell Hill, John Woodward and Mel Hobbins, from runners-up Marie Hodder and Sheena Millar.
