Talent on show at swim carnival

SWIMMING carnivals are the highlight of many children’s school years and it was no different recently when Sunshine Beach State School held their annual swim carnivals.
Students competed in both the traditional stroke events and also took part in some wonderful novelty events.
Swimming carnivals are a great way to witness a student’s physical and mental motivation and to encourage children to identify a challenge and try their best to achieve.
Carnivals allow many students who have spent many very early mornings involved in local swim squads to showcase their talents. They also provide an avenue for all children to take part in a challenging activity.
In addition it is an exciting culmination for school swimming lessons undertaken by many classes.
“All Sunshine Beach students are congratulated for their enthusiastic participation in the carnivals. The display of technical skill, fitness, self-discipline and resilience was enjoyable to be a part of,” Health and Physical Education teacher Cam Porter said.
“In addition to providing an opportunity for students to excel, school athletics carnivals are an opportunity for schools to highlight the importance of physical activity and in particular the correlation between physical activity and academic achievement,” he said.
Age champions were 9 years – Kayla, Joe; 10 years – Georgia, Augie; 11 years – Blake, Holly; 12 years – Grace, Louis.
The winning team for 2016 was Kookaburras!
