Greening Noosa one tree at a time

Seventy volunteers planted about 550 native trees on Sunday morning in an area between Cooloosa Street and Heathland Drive at Sunshine Beach to celebrate National Tree Day.

Organiser of the Noosa Bush and Beach Creek Care (NBBCC) group Jill Campbell said the group began working in the area 12 months ago and the improvement in the bushland area had been “just amazing”.

Jill who has been working for the group for 14 years said they worked across the Noosa Shire with one of their sites a sand island at the mouth of the Noosa River which they can access only between April and September when migratory birds are not present.

Planet Ark launched National Tree Day in 1996 and since then 3.5 million volunteers have planted more than 22 million trees.
