AFTER 1700 kilometres of headwinds, steep hills and rain, Victorian woman Kristy McGrath finally rode into Tewantin Noosa RSL park on Saturday to the sounds of cheers.
The 32-year-old woman from Stanhope, Victoria, had just ridden from her home town to Tewantin to raise money for her goddaughter, Ellie Topliff.
Ellie, 18 months, has been disgnosed with the extremely rare Tay-Sachs disease, a degenerative brain disorder with no treatment, no cure and a life expectancy of between two and five years.
Kristy, who only started riding in February this year, set off on the challenge to raise money and awareness for the disease.
Together with the Tewantin Noosa RSL, which held a charity auction on Saturday night, more than $23,000 was raised for Ellie and her family.
Kristy is already on her way back to Victoria, this time by car.
