Park open to barks

DOG lovers can now include their beloved pets on trips to picturesque Lake Macdonald, with Seqwater declaring the area ‘dog friendly’.
Pooches are now allowed to join their families at the Seqwater recreation area at Lake Macdonald Park, and Seqwater CEO Peter Dennis said the decision came from the landmark recreation review.
“In mid-2012, dogs on leashes were permitted a Lake Macdonald Park on a trial basis. Feedback received through the recreation review highlighted the community’s desire for this to continue,” he said.
“Dogs on leashes are now permitted permanently at Lake Macdonald Park, enabling visitors to enjoy time outdoors with their canine friends.”
It is expected that allowing dogs at Lake Macdonald will entice more visitors, but dog owners are warned to control their pets to ensure public safety.
“Dogs will need to be kept on a leash at all times, while waste will need to be collected and disposed of in the bins provided,” Mr Dennis said.
But your furry friend won’t be allowed in the lake for a swim, due to the potential impact on drinking water quality.
“Seqwater rangers patrol the recreation area at the lake and will answer queries about Seqwater’s rules,” Mr Dennis said.
