Parishioner and biologist Stuart Hyland helped release a python in Tewantin after the snake appeared in a car engine bay.

A PARISHIONER from St Andrew’s Presbyterian Church in Tewantin was given a fright when he uncovered a three-metre python stowed away under the engine bonnet of his car.
Hot conditions have prompted our slithering friends to stir in their burrows and the python was spotted acting suspiciously in nearby undergrowth prior to the church service at 9am on Sunday, 26 October.
Fortunately, parishioner and biologist Stuart Hyland of Sunshine Beach (pictured) volunteered to remove the snake.
The snake wrapped itself around Mr Hyland’s arm before he grabbed the snake’s head.
The python was taken back to the undergrowth and released unharmed – Mr Hyland was also ok.
Church Minister Keith Mayers reported the incident had not discouraged worshippers, but he noticed more people were parking on the bitumen part of the car-park.
