Be fire ready

By Andrew Bell

The Doonan Rural Fire Brigade will hold a bushfire safety plan information night on Saturday 4 February to help residents plan for the season.
The night has been planned in the aftermath of the devastating Coolum Bushfire, where miraculously no buildings were lost or injuries occurred, and after numerous inquiries to both local Fire Wardens and Queensland Fire and Emergency Survives (QFES) in regards to Bushfire Safety Plans.
The evening will direct householders to the Prepare Act Survive Campaign, a national initiative to encourage people to think about their Bushfire Plan before they see flames or even smell smoke on the wind.
Anyone still not convinced of the need for prior planning and family discussion, take a look at “When the Fires Come” (available on YouTube).
This video was produced by the CFA in Victoria after the Black Saturday Fires. It is based on the thoughts and experiences of real people who lived through those fires and it may change your mind.
Bookings are not essential, but places may be limited, so an indication of attendance would be appreciated though the Facebook page @Doonan Rural Fire Brigade.
The information night will be held on Saturday 4 February, from 7pm, at the Doonan Rural Fire Brigade, 700 Eumundi Noosa Road, Doonan.
