Tewantin takes lead in hard garbage clean-up

The much-loved kerbside clean-up is back this April with Tewantin residents the first in line for the seven-week event.
Residents in Tewantin will have their unwanted rubbish and junk collected on Monday 24 April, before the clean-up makes its way throughout the shire.
There have been a few changes to this year’s clean-up, and Noosa Council waste manager Wayne Schafer said residents will receive an information flyer in the mail in early April to explain the new system.
Unlike previous years, the collection will now take place during the week, instead of on the weekend.
“Rubbish will need to be at the kerb before the Monday of the collection week,” Mr Schafer said.
Residents must sort their rubbish into three separate piles: useful household items that can be easily repaired; metal items for recycling; and all other rubbish. Each pile will be collected by a different truck.
According to the new system, contractors will not accept garden waste, nor items such as batteries, tyres, gas bottles and large items that can’t be lifted by two people.
“Residents should check the flyer for a full list of items that won’t be accepted,” Mr Schafer said.
Council will again provide a paid mattress collection service, in conjunction with the kerbside bulk rubbish collection at a cost of $20. Payment must be made prior to collection day.
To book the mattress collection service, residents need to phone Cleanaway on 131 339 before 4.30pm on the Wednesday prior to their collection week.
Contractors will collect a maximum of three cubic metres of rubbish per house, and six cubic metres per unit complex.
For further information, consult the brochure, which will be delivered to homes prior to collection day. Phone 5329 6500 or visit the council website at www.noosa.qld.gov.au/kerbside-collection for more information.
