Anglers were out in force during the last weekend!
With the weather nothing short of sensational, it stood to reason that anglers would be out in force. Noosa’s North Shore was busy with four wheel drivers making their way up the beach in search of the best gutter to fish.
Turning right coming out of the first cutting was a good option with some quality tailor and bream coming from the waters down towards the river mouth. Deep gutter are a little hard to find at the moment, so Burley is a good idea when fishing the surf; dropping small pieces of bait into the water will help to bring the fish up.
Up toward Double Island, chopper tailor, bream, dart and flathead have all been taken. Mullet, pilchards, prawns and worms have all got the job done.
The Noosa River has been alive with trevally, good numbers of giant, tea leaf and golden trevally have been taken around Woods Bays, Munna Point, the back of the Noosa Sound as well as up towards the Tewantin ski run. Small fish bait like frog mouthed pilchards, hardy heads and white bait have worked well, but most anglers have been fishing soft plastics.
The Keitech Easy Shiner is one of my favourites in the three or four inch sizes, coupled with a 2/0 TT jig head in 1/6 weight has been working well. With so many prawns in the river, another plastic that has been working well is the Fuse Prawn heads. Down toward the river mouth, the Dog Beach and the Frying Pan have been fishing well for whiting, worm, pealed frozen prawns and yabbies have all been great baits. Nice-sized flathead have also been on the chew with the run out tide the best to target them. Again prawn profile soft plastics have been working well.
The offshore scene has also been firing with some great reports coming from the closer reefs. Starting with Sunshine Reef, nice trout continue to come from the bottom as well as large jewies. Live baits have been the key. There are still quite a few mackerel around at the moment with North, Halls and Chardon’s reefs all recording captures last week. Pilchard floater still seems to be the way to go. The Barwon Banks have again been firing with large snapper and quality pearl perch. Up toward Double Island, big amber jacks, gold spot cod, snapper, pearlies, and red emperor have all been hitting the decks. Micro Jigs have again been coming into their own with the flat fall jigs working especially well. These jigs tend to make their way to the bottom more on the horizontal, resembling a dead or dying bait fish. Some of my favourites are the Colt Snipers from Shimano and the vectors from TT.
