More cameras for film students

Noosa Film Society donates cameras to encourage student film making.

Noosa District State High School student Josephine Birch-Johnson regards Film, Television and New Media (FTVNM) as her most memorable and enjoyable subject in all her 12 years of schooling.
Last week, the Noosa Film Society bought and donated two Canon 700D digital cameras to the school to help more creative students advance their technical and artistic abilities.
More than 90 students in Years 11 and 12 at the school are enrolled in FTVNM, and until last week had only 10 cameras between them.
“Film and TV gives students a chance to express themselves and share their interest or the issues they find important in the modern age,” Josephine said.
“The youth view on today’s society is the most important as we are the next generation. Film is, in my opinion, a commonly underrated subject, as it can be a powerful educational tool.
“I have learned to recognise shot sizes, how to create the perfect shooting script, and how to analyse film techniques, but furthermore I have learned how to view everyday situations with a critical and evaluating eye.”
In November, FTVNM students enter their films into the school’s NOSCARS.
The Noosa Film Society is hoping to screen some of these winning films to members at Noosa 5 cinema.
Society president Holly Pittman said the society would invite some students to attend the Noosa International Film Festival series of workshops in October and would offer a wildcard entry into next year’s festival.
“This is part of NIFF’s incentive to encourage education and the advancement of the film industry in Noosa,” she said.
