Noosa Pirates prepare for 2018

By Ron Lane

In preparation for the 2018 Rugby League season, Noosa Pirates held their Annual General Meeting on Sunday morning.
Before a crowd of thirty club members – which included local member and club patron Glen Elmes and seven life members – club president Greg Christensen welcomed everyone. He extended his thanks for their attendance and contribution during the past season.
“Last season it was our goal to turn this club around and set it on a successful path, I am sure that you will all agree that results show we achieved our goal in more ways than one. Not only did our players, under coach Ron Greentree achieve the impossible by winning the premiership, but also in the business side we showed a marked improvement in all avenues of club life.
“We started by upgrading club facilities, thus creating a welcome atmosphere to members, sponsors and visitors. Our work in the area of promotion, fundraising and hospitality was good and well supported by our work force.
“The successful running of our annual rodeo, the first ever Legends of League and private functions within club premises, was not only a financial success, but also a success in as much that we provided a premises for family entertainment for the people of our community, many of who supported our club. In these areas the work of secretary Lexie Mawn and Greg Furner, both life members was exceptional.
“On the playing field the hard work and dedication of coaches in both the senior and junior clubs was obviously second to none; and as a result the bonding between the clubs has never been stronger. Also the loyalty and support of all our sponsors in what can only be termed a very difficult year, has indeed earned our eternal gratitude.”
In closing his report, the president acknowledged the outstanding contribution of retiring club secretary Lexie Mawn.
“Over the years this lady’s loyalty and performance has, and rightly so, earned her the high honour of life member, an honour well-deserved and applauded by all.”
For the election of officers, the returning patron Glen Elmes took the chair. Before performing his duties he, with the meeting’s permission, endorsed the remarks regarding the relationship that exists between the senior and junior clubs.
“This is indeed a very good sign and speaks volumes for the future of the club. I wish them well,” he said.
All standing executive members were returned to office unopposed and the vacancy created by the retirement of secretary Lexie Mawn was filled by Jess Goldthorpe. Jess was also an executive member of the junior club. We wish her well.
The executive for the forthcoming season is: President Greg Christensen, Vice President Ben Christensen, Secretary Jess Goldthorpe and Treasurer Gary Christensen. Best wishes to all.
