Noosa District State High School 2012 graduate James Jarrett visited Year 11 students last week to share his career journey and insights into buying and selling shares on the Australian stock market.
James also spoke to the students about his fascinating sleep condition of sleepwalking which causes him to undertake activities he would never do in a conscious state.
“I have crashed cars, destroyed a neighbour’s yard and tried to jump out of the window of a 17-storey building,” he told students.
Year 11 and Year 12 were busy years for James, who completed certificate courses in hospitality and management and worked at Jamaica Blue, the Cooroy RSL and McDonald’s while completing his school studies.
The certificate courses enabled Mr Jarrett to attain an entry-level qualification for university and he took on a Bachelor of Business and Human Resources at the University of the Sunshine Coast.
Mr Jarrett plans to complete a Master’s degree specialising in psychology, with aims to ultimately become a neurologist.
“This sleepwalking condition has me intrigued with how the brain works and I have a desire to understand it better from my own personal perspective,” he said.
James is taking part in a university study on sleepwalking with a research paper being written on his particular case.
Shares in Australian companies provide James with enough income to live comfortably while he studies.
“I research the companies and put a lot of thought into my investments. I pick companies that have the potential for a growing market,” James said.
The most profitable investments in his share portfolio are medicinal cannabis and lithium mining companies.
