FROM the Opera House to Noosa – the Noosa Music Society presents the award-winning Strelitzia Piano Trio.
The Sydney-based group are set to play during the Noosa Long-weekend Festival Sunday 19 July from 7.30pm at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Centre.
Formed in 2008 Strelitzia now includes Warren (violin), pianist Mikey Curtain and founding member Eleanor Betts (Cello).
The group found much acclaim after winning the prestigious Musica Viva Chamber Music Award in 2009. Strelitzia made their Opera House debut with a sold out performance for Musica Viva in the Sydney Opera House’s Utzon Room Series in 2011. They performed frequently that year for Musica Viva’s Chamber Music Essentials program in conjunction with Sydney University.
The group has been widely praised for their innovative programs, which typically feature the great masterpieces of the classical, romantic and twentieth century chamber music repertoire alongside lesser known gems from around the world. They also perform fresh new contemporary works with influences ranging from world music, Jazz to modern dance.
For this Noosa Long-weekend Festival concert they will perform a Haydn and a Brahms’ piano trio as well as ‘Lighthouse’ – a contemporary work by Alicia Grant – along with a selection of Frank Martin’s popular Irish folk tunes.
