LESS than 48 hours after the Noosa community gathered at Lions Park Noosaville to say no to domestic violence, a local man armed with a knife has been arrested over “very serious” threats to his partner.
Police said a 32-year-old man was arrested at a store in Noosaville about 4am on Tuesday 13 October after he threatened his 29-year-old partner while she was working.
Police will allege the man sent over 90 text messages and tried to call the woman four times before turning up at her place of work and breaking down a grill to try and get to her.
Police said the man made “very serious” threats against her and had the potential to carry them out.
While the woman hid in the store, the man fled the scene, but the dog squad tracked him down before he was arrested and taken to the Maroochydore Watch House.
The man is expected to be charged with assault, damaging property, possessing a knife, breaching bail conditions and contravening a domestic violence order.
Noosa Heads officer-in-charge Senior Sergeant Steve McReight said his team were currently attending about one domestic violence incident per day throughout the Noosa region.
“In the 24-hour period from Monday to Tuesday, we attended two DV incidents,” he said.
