Even tuckshop goes gourmet

IT’S not just the award-winning restaurants and cafes of Hastings Street that are causing waves in the culinary world, with St Andrew’s Anglican College now the proud winner of the Smart Choices Menu award.
The award is part of the Queensland Association of School Tuckshops and was presented to St Andrew’s Anglican College at the gala dinner on Friday 6 November.
The school’s food manager Anne-Marie Williams said she was elated to win the award because it recognised the work the college put into a healthy menu for the students.
“Our menu is designed to be fresh, innovative, healthy and creative to meet the needs of growing minds and growing bodies,” Ms Williams said.
“The college places high emphasis on healthy lifestyles and the menu certainly compliments and reinforces this ideology.”
The menu is changed each term with Snaac Shack staff working with a qualified Nutritionist and the college’s sustainability teacher to design each menu.
The majority of the fresh produce used is picked daily straight from the college’s sustainability garden, with only a small percentage of food sold at the Snaac Shack pre-packaged.
“Our families appreciate the fresh and healthy menu we deliver, with the menu based around providing healthy, nutritious meals filled full of vegies which are made fresh on-site daily,” Ms Williams said.
The menu offers a range of options including roast vegetable wraps, sushi, plus a beetroot, pumpkin and feta salad.
