KIDS are encouraged to get creative with after-school art classes set to kick off later this year.
Noosa Regional Gallery’s Afterschool Art Classes will introduce students to the rapidly evolving world of ceramics, when the eight-week, term-two program begins in May.
Guided by a qualified art professional and developed in line with the current national curriculum, the weekly sessions will explore the latest techniques in contemporary ceramics.
Gallery director Nina Shadforth said students would produce art pieces which will feature in a mini-exhibition.
“Each student will produce two finished works over the course of the program: a fired and painted ceramic piece and an intricately designed, staged and photographed scene of their own creation,” Ms Shadforth said.
“The gallery will showcase the works at the end of the term in a pop-up style mini-exhibition, where parents will have the joy of seeing their child’s works in an art gallery.”
Noosa Regional Gallery’s Afterschool Art Classes are open to primary school children between six to 12 years old and classes will run from 3.45pm to 5pm, each Thursday, from 1 May until 19 June.
Cost is $96 per child which includes materials and discounts are available for siblings. Bookings are now open for the Thursday sessions, for more information or to book a place, contact the gallery on 5329 6145.
That’s not all on offer at the gallery.
Art meets surf these school holidays as Noosa Regional Gallery celebrates its current exhibition 25 Years of Stoke: Noosa Festival of Surfing Jubilee with nine custom kids’ workshops.
Kids are encouraged to get creative when prolific Brisbane street artist and designer Kasper heads north on 1 April for two skate deck design holiday workshops at Noosa Regional Gallery.
Known for his continuous line illustration, vivid colour combinations and tireless work ethic, Kasper’s public pieces have featured in the likes of Brisbane Street Art Festival and last year’s Unframed Project at Coolum.
Kids will be able to get their hands dirty with the clay surfboard shaping, sand casting and ‘beach find’ crafts also featured in the kids’ program, each Wednesday and Thursday through the school holidays.
If photography is more their taste, kids will enjoy Stoked about Waves and Water; an interactive insight into the gallery’s current exhibitions; Waves and Water – Australian Beach photography and the Noosa Festival of Surfing’s 25th Anniversary exhibition, 25 years of Stoke.
Bookings are open for Stoked about Waves and Water which takes place on Wednesday 30 and Thursday 31 March, then Wednesday 6 and Thursday 7 April. Cost is $8 per person which includes materials.
Skateboard design sessions with Kasper are for seven to 11 year olds and 12 to 15 year olds. Cost is $18 per person, which includes a blank skateboard deck and materials.
