Three plays to vote on

THE One Act Play Festival is back again at the Noosa Arts Theatre for its 37th year of unique, fun entertainment.
Opening 3 July, the festival will showcase three original plays with different scenarios; Instructions for Two or More Players, The Invitation and The Devil’s Dance.
Written by Michiko Parnell, Instructions for Two or More players follows 50-year-old Michael as he nears a mid-life crisis. Chaos ensues when Michael is intent on getting his wife to also admit to a fear of turning 50.
The Invitation, by Michael McCormick is a tragic comedy that follows the life of new parents Ester and Tom who seem to live in a continuous cycle of miscommunication and long waits for invitations, until one simple question changes everything: “Where’s the baby?”
The final play, The Devil’s Dance, written by councillor Frank Wilkie, tells the tale of an ambitious cop entangled in a corrupt web of deranged power who confronts the aftermath of a heinous crime.
The audience is encouraged to vote for the best play, which will receive the Nancy Cato Audience Choice Award, with the winner of this year’s Best Play announced after the final performance of Saturday 19 July.
The winner receives $3000, courtesy of major sponsor the Tewantin Community Bank branch of Bendigo Bank.
There will be a cut-price preview of 3 July at 7.30pm, with tickets only $20. Evening and matinee performances will then follow from 4 July.
There will also be a View Club charity performance on 10 July at 7.30pm in aid of the Learning for Life program that assists disabled children. Club president Marie Coyne said there were still tickets available for the special performance and encouraged everyone to come along and support a worthy cause.
“We need bums on seats so we can continue our great work,” she said.
Tickets are available now with adults at $29, concession $25, groups or members $23 and children $20, for regular shows.
You can book your tickets by phoning 5449 9343 or drop into the theatre, 163 Weyba Road, Noosaville, between Tuesday and Saturday, 9am to 1pm.
