At one with the weather

Popular Channel 7 weatherman Livio Regano made a special visit to Noosa District State High School last week to share his career journey with students.

NOOSA District State High School Year 11 Social and Community Studies students were enthralled to hear about Channel 7 weather reporter and meteorologist Livio Regano’s career pathway in a presentation to the class last week.
Mr Regano shared with the students his career journey, which has led him into the multi-faceted role he has today working as a weatherman, meteorologist, university lecturer and tour guide.
The fascination Mr Regano has with the weather was sparked when he was a child, sleeping on a bed on a verandah surrounded by a fly-net, lying on his back, looking up and watching the thunderstorms brew and then roll across the sky.
Mathematics and physics were subjects Mr Regano enjoyed and was very good at during his secondary schooling, and he continued to hone his craft at the tertiary level, before scoring a highly sought-after job at the Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) in Melbourne.
Channel 7 came seeking Mr Regano for the weather reporter job after he was spotted as spokesperson for BoM on a few television crosses.
The job provided Mr Regano with the opportunity to leave Melbourne with its “crazy weather” to relocate to the Sunshine Coast.
“Most people freak out here over a three or four degree change in temperature. In Melbourne, you can have one day being 31 degrees and the next day just 17 degrees. That’s almost expected and normal in Melbourne,” Mr Regano said.
Mr Regano regrets not taking more risks with his career, especially after turning down a job to be a clown touring South East Asia, and surprisingly, his favourite job to date is running tours of Fraser Island on weekends once or twice a month.
The students were advised to find a job that makes them happy and to take up opportunity when it comes knocking.
The class thoroughly enjoyed Mr Regano’s presentation and submitted some additional questions to him in the hope they are answered during the extra 15 seconds Mr Regano is allowed once a week to respond to viewer questions.
While at the school, Mr Regano supported the Student Council’s RSPCA Cupcake Day with a generous donation to the cause and the purchase of a cupcake to accompany his cup of tea following the class presentation.
