Get around an event-packed week

By Hollie Harris

SUNSHINE Coast, get ready for a bumper weekend and be prepared for changed traffic conditions across the coast as we kick off all the fun.
The start of spring, a World Championship, the start of the first ever region-wide arts and cultural festival, the arrival of a cruise ship and Father’s Day – it’s going to be a busy weekend, so here is some useful information to help you plan and get around this weekend.

P&O Pacific Pearl
The 3000 Ironman athletes racing this weekend will be cheered on by the 1600 cruise ship visitors, when P&O Pacific Pearl docks at Mooloolaba on Sunday.
Provision for the visitor buses have been made in conjunction with the Ironman event organisers and council.

Getting to the airport on Sunday 4 September
If travelling to the airport on Sunday morning 4 September (Father’s Day) allow some extra time, as the Sunshine Motorway will be closed between Mooloolaba and Peregian Springs roundabout exits for the Ironman World Championships and congestion along the David Low Way is expected.

Friends and family coming to visit?
Tell friends and family to plan ahead and refer to the changed traffic conditions for the Ironman event.

Horizon festival of arts and culture
The Sunshine Coast’s first arts and culture festival kicks off this week with 220 events over 10 days in 12 locations. Horizon Sunshine Coast runs from 2 to 11 September.
Minimal changed traffic conditions will apply in Caloundra on 2 September and Nambour on 3 September. See information below. For further information visit www.horizonfestival.com.au

Planning on visiting Cotton Tree Markets?

Planning on visiting Fisherman Road’s Markets?
Limited off-street parking is available around the Fishermans Road Markets, please adhere to parking signage and regulations.

AFL finals Maroochydore Multisport Complex
Due to the AFL finals on that day – parking at the Maroochydore Multisports Complex will be limited. A parking fee may apply.
