It’s been a while since we have heard these fine players in Noosa – Michael, Sandra and Richard were last here together with the “Sweet Lowdowns” and were thought of then as one of the finest small groups around. Michael has since traveled the world playing with various groups including the Hot Jazz Alliance. On this occasion as the Michael McQuaid Quartet, they team up with esteemed Jo Bloomfield on piano.
Michael McQuaid plays jazz and swing from the 1920s and ’30s with remarkable energy and originality. He is an Australian multi-instrumentalist, regularly performing on clarinet, saxophones, trumpet and even occasionally piano. He has recently returned to Melbourne after spending 2015 travelling and performing around Europe and America.
McQuaid began performing with professional bands at the age of 15. He was mentored by many of Australia’s finest jazz musicians, including Ade Monsbourgh, Tom Baker and Paul Furniss and is considered, these days, to be an acknowledged authority on this era of music by critics.
