Just a year after taking over the kitchen at Tewantin Noosa Bowls Club, head chef Darren Pyle and his wife Kym are adding on a coffee shop and reporting record attendance.
“People must be liking what we are doing, it’s really increasing,” Darren said.
The past month has been very busy for the club’s bistro with 2500 meals served in July which is an increase of 750 from the previous year.
And it’s no wonder with a selection of homemade cakes on offer in addition to bistro meals prepared by Darren and his team of eight staff.
Darren said the new coffee shop with alfresco seating will open in September with a new coffee machine and bring with it a menu change and an increase in the range of homemade cakes.
“It will have a bright new look and we’ll have more snack type food for members,” he said.
“There’ll be homemade pies and sausage rolls and wraps.”
Darren said the bistro menu would also be changed to co-incide with the coffee shop opening.
He said the bistro specials were very popular with bowlers and pensioners and would be continuing.
The club is very popular with bowls played every day and regular tournaments.
“We have a lot of people up from down south. It’s a very busy time. Most of them are members of the club. Some come for four weeks and others for three months,” he said.
Barefoot bowls is also popular with corporate and social events and will be more popular as Christmas approaches, Darren said.
