Known as the most preventable disease, Melanoma is still avoidable by following a few simple rules.
1. It’s imperative that Queenslanders slip on protective clothing, slop on sunscreen, slap on a broad-brimmed hat, seek shade and slide on wrap-around sunnies when outdoors.
2. Get to know your own skin, and if you notice a new spot or lesion, or a spot or lesion change in shape, colour or size, visit a GP immediately.
3. Queenslanders with fair skin, skin that burns easily, the presence of many moles, and a family history of skin cancer are at greater risk of developing melanoma and should always take extra care.
