All in as battle continues

By Margaret Maccoll

The battle over the future Peregian Surf Club continues with a public meeting being held on Saturday bringing parties together.

About four months ago Peregian Family & Friends ran a crowd-funding campaign raising about $11,000 and engaged community engagement professional Leisa Prowse Consulting to conduct a community consultation process. The consultation brought together six community groups: Peregian Family & Friends (PFaFA), Peregian Springs Residents Association, Peregian Beach Business Association, Peregian Beach Community Association (PBCAI), Peregian Beach Community House Association and Peregian Beach Surf Club.

After several consultation meetings three groups Peregian Beach Community Association, Peregian Beach Community House and Peregian Beach Surf Club withdrew from the consultation.

PBCAI state PFaFA is a non-elected body which “was attempting to control the other Associations participating in the PFaFA consultation which is why it’s continuation was not feasible”.

PFaFA have engaged market researchers Market Facts to design and facilitate a survey. The group has launched an online and phone survey and this week distributed an information sheet to 7000 residents.

PF&FA spokesman Kane Livingstone said: “We have an opportunity to design the future of surf lifesaving in Peregian together, and we are looking forward to listening to what the community views are.”

The online survey is available at tinyurl.com/peregiansurfclub

The public meeting will be held this Saturday from 3-5.30pm at Peregian Beach Community House, cnr David Low Way and Woodland Drive, Peregian Beach. There will be guest speakers from Noosa Council, PFaFA, Peregian Beach Surf Club and Surf Life Saving Queensland.
