Noosa Heads Bowls
THE main event at the Noosa club last week was the all-day Thursday Rapid Fire. Four men constituted a team, playing two games of pairs and two of fours. Playing through showery conditions, the overall winners were the group of Sanday, Walsh, Brown and Dale. Second prize in the talent-laden field went to the Birt, Hughes, Moss and Bolworth combination.
Noosa ladies continued their successful pennant campaign last week when both of our sides had home games. Division 4 picked up another four points from their encounter with Buderim and Divisoin 2 scored a win in the morning over Mooloolaba, but went down narrowly in the afternoon matches.
Men’s pennant matches were cancelled on Saturday because of the rain. This Saturday will see Division 1 playing away at Caloundra, Division 3 at Mooloolaba, and Division 6 will host a visit by Club Maroochy.
Last Tuesday’s men’s pairs winners were regular NZ Visitor Brian Morrison and local Richard Foulds.
Runners-up went to George Manera and David Deane. Wednesday ladies winners were Jeanette Emery and Julie Boyer with Dawn Newton and Lis Thomson having the next highest margin.
Friday open jackpot pairs saw a win to Ian and Thelma Sanday with runners-up to Victorian visitors Brian Kent and Brian Docking from the Werribee club.
Play continues in the club mixed pairs with semi-final matches due to be decided this Sunday. Entry forms are now out for the annual mixed fours championship. – The Chalker
Tewantin Noosa Bowls
THE 2014 men’s triples club championship final was played. Overnight rain made the green heavy and ensured a very close game between Bob Nesbit, Josh Anderson and Troy Rowley (Moppy) and Bert De Koster, Mike Lowe and Gary Moss. All players played very well with eventual winners after 31 ends Team Moppy prevailing over Team Moss by 30-24.
Saturday 9 August, men’s pennants: Division 1 – Club Maroochy 59 d Tewantin 58. Division 3 – Palmwoods 1-61 d Tewantin 59. Division 5 – Pacific Paradise 2 64 d Tewantin 1 57. Division 6 – Woombye 1 42 d Tewantin 1 34.
Division 7: Nambour 1 44 d Tewantin 1 31.
Tuesday 12 August, two-bowl triples. Connie Johnston, Beth Tolley and Val Reinike over Margaret Dunstan, Mary Williams and Yvonne Ambrey.
Wednesday 13 August, men’s bowls: Frank Crane and John Kester (2 wins +31) d Bob Mulvogue and Ken Jaekel (1 win +14).
Triples winners: Pat McIvor, L. Ellers and Rob Slack. Jackpot not won carries over.
Thursday 14 August, club champion of champion district pairs: Jenny Lonie and Robyn McAnelly won the zone play-offs. Unfortunately our ladies four district champions of champions did not win the zone play-offs. Congratulations to the team Evelyn Coghlan, Mary Ross, Jenny Lonie and Robyn McAnelly in reaching the zone play-offs.
Friday 15 August, open triples: Evelyn Coghlan, Hein Heinrich and Kevin Coghlan over D. Brown, S. Lord and J. Haydon. The margin jackpot of $115 was unclaimed so will carry over.
Men’s pennants on Saturday 16 August were washed out and will be played at a later date.

Cooroy Bowls
The welcome rain put a smile on the greenkeeper’s face but prevented play on Saturday and Sunday.
Thursday’s play was a wash out as well but with one game played the overall winners were Kerry Knowles and Ken Christensen. Visitors Bev Dickinson and Ruth Clarke were runners-up.
Tuesday jackpot pairs winners were Lester Krosch and Kerry Knowles. Terence Charles, John McKechnie and John Langdale were runners-up.
This week games will be on Tuesday afternoon, Thursday morning (ladies day with men invited) and Saturday afternoon.
