Talent on show

Ava Foreman will be Noosa’s only entrant in this year’s Breakthru School Music and Dance Competition grand final to be held on Saturday at Sunshine Plaza’s Riverwalk Stage in Maroochydore.

The 15-year-old St Teresa’s Catholic College student will perform a solo dance routine she choreographed herself.

Teacher Sarah McNamara said Ava had choreographed the technically complicated dance for St Teresa’s Idol competition held last term.

“She’s incredibly talented,” Ms McNamara said.

She said Ava was not at a dance studio but had a background knowledge of ballet, contemporary and jazz dance and was very talented at acrobatics.

Ava’s dance titled Too Good at Goodbyes will be one of 12 acts voted by the public and judges to make the finals after four competition heats participated in by 570 primary and secondary singers, dancers and musicians from 25 schools across the Sunshine Coast.

Winners of the primary and secondary acts will take away $6,000 in cash for their school as well as $2,000 worth of Sunshine Plaza gift cards for performing students.

Sunshine Plaza centre manager Michael Manwaring said in addition to showcasing the talents of local students, the competition aims to raise awareness of the importance of youth mental health and wellbeing with headspace Maroochydore being a key partner of the event.

“Each of the acts has something different to offer and the high calibre of performances really reinforces just how talented our local youth are,” he said.

“Based on the performances from the last couple of weekends, competition will be tight.”
