Soccer girls through to Grand Final

By KRISTY PATTEN

Coastal women’s Gold: SEMI FINAL.
After taking out the league by a whopping nine points the Noosa girls went to a very sandy NYU (yes they flooded the pitch with sand) to take on fierce title rivals, Buderim.
From the kick off, Buderim had one thing in mind, to play a physical and rough game. But the girls settled into the game quickly and with their second attack, won a corner, in which Lorinda Dion got through nutmeg the keeper making the score Noosa 1-0.
However shortly after, Buderim got back into the game making it one all.
The Noosa girls rallied, and with their crafty captain Rebecca Whisker ruling the midfield gained possession whenever the ball was near.
Deep into the first half Ursula Hughson won a free kick on the edge of the box – lifting it over the wall, off the crossbar and bouncing over the line. At this point confusion set in because the linesman flagged offside, only to then tell the ref it was a goal making it 2-1 Noosa.
Ursula was then played down the left wing, as she cut the defence open, and drew yet another foul from the same player, on the edge of the box.
No confusion with this effort, curling it into the near post top corner making it 3-1 to Noosa. The Buderim team was shocked, as their football could no longer do any talking.
Before half time, a brilliantly placed ball sent Ursula through holding off two defenders to slide home a fourth, her hat trick gave Noosa a 4-1 half time lead.
The second half brought no goals, but the effort to preserve the lead was colossal. The Noosa girls had decided at half time – do not concede. From this point Buderim’s play style one could only describe as hopeful, resulting in Noosa getting a lot of goal kicks simply because Buderim’s through balls were to no one.
An impressive 4-1 was the final score and the Noosa White girls are through to the Grand Final in two weeks’ time.
Head on down to NYU to see if the Noosa girls can lift the championship.
