Skin cancer patients in Noosa now have access to the state-of-the-art treatment, superficial x-ray therapy (SXRT).
Superficial x-ray therapy, an evidence based, non-surgical skin cancer solution will be available locally for the first time at Just Skin Treatment Clinic in Noosa’s Goodchap St.
The non-surgical treatment uses a sophisticated x-ray machine to safely target non-melanoma skin cancers without the need for cutting or surgery.
Non-melanoma skin cancers, namely Basal Cell Carcinoma and Squamous Cell Carcinoma, make up the majority of skin cancer diagnosis in Australia, with around 400,000 new cases reported each year. And Queenslanders are amongst the highest percentage of people diagnosed.
While other options to treat non-melanoma skin cancers such as surgery are readily available in the region, the availability of the superficial x ray therapy technology will improve outcomes for skin cancer sufferers in the region.
Radiation Oncologist at Just Skin, Dr Colin Dicks said, “Superficial x ray therapy is a very effective treatment option for non-melanoma skin cancers anywhere on the body, with results on par with surgery.”
“Due to its non-surgical nature, it is especially beneficial for those patients who have skin cancers in cosmetically sensitive regions such as the nose, face and ears, where surgery is difficult or not desired by the patient.”
Opening Just Skin in Noosa means this effective treatment option will now be available right on the doorstep of Noosa residents, as well as those in surrounding communities.
“While this treatment option is widely used in private practices throughout Europe, the UK and USA, Just Skin is one of only a few clinics in Australia to offer this treatment. It is exciting to see this technology being brought into the Noosa community,” Dr Dicks said.
“Our expansion to Noosa means we can offer more people more choice when it comes to treating their non-melanoma skin cancer – something that is exciting for us but so beneficial for those suffering with the disease.”
Access to the specialist treatment, superficial x-ray therapy, is supported by Medicare and DVA, with no health insurance required. Just Skin Treatment Clinic opened at 90 Goodchap St on Monday 13 September 2021.
