How much sugar is hiding in your trolley?

During Dental Health Week in August, a Noosa business will be teaching the community exactly how much sugar is hiding away in their trolleys.

Gentle Dental Noosa Civic will be in the Little Community Space (next to Woolworths) giving a free presentation for both kids and adults on Wednesday 5 and Thursday 6 August from 3:30pm to 4:30pm.

Surgery manager Jo Goldsworthy said Dental Health Week was a fabulous initiative raising awareness about the importance of preventative dental services.

“It’s teaching people that prevention is the best method for ensuring you have healthy teeth throughout your life,” she said.

“This is especially important when talking about getting children into the right oral health practises.

“If kids get off on the right foot, it’s getting them into the habit of maintaining good oral health throughout their lives.“

Jo said this Dental Health Week they were focusing on raising awareness to the hidden sugars that are in our shopping trolleys.

“Everyone’s aware that there is sugar in things like chocolate and orange juice but some people aren’t aware of the sugars in things like muesli bars and common children’s snacks,“ she said.

“So that’s why we wanted to do the stall where we’ll be showing parents and kids particular foods and their sugar contents.

“I think it’s really important, especially in children’s softer teeth which are more prone to tooth decay.”

Jo said they were grateful for the community’s support after recently opening their new surgery next to Suncorp Bank in Noosa Civic Shopping Centre.

“We’ve been very lucky to have received tremendous support from the community since we opened,“ she said.

“Obviously opening our new surgery during the Covid-19 pandemic, we’ve had our challenges, but we’ve adapted well.”

Jo said she believed services had boomed since people were no longer able to travel overseas for medical trips.

“I think it’s relatively busy for this time of the year, but we’re also mindful of what’s due to happen in September, and it just sort of depends on how things go with Job Keeper,“ she said.

“The dental industry has been pretty lucky when you compare it to the hospitality and other entertainment industries.”
