Noosa welcomes new citizens

Noosa welcomed 22 new citizens on Tuesday from the UK, Ireland, Trinidad and Tobago, Czech Republic, Sweden. Zimbabwe and Portugal, France and Netherlands.

Mayor Clare Stewart presided over the ceremonies held as three separate occasions under Covid-safe conditions at Council’s Tewantin Administration Building.

Cr Stewart said it was a privilege to be part of such an important moment for these residents.

“It’s such a pleasure to be part of their pledge to become new Australians,” she said.

Among the new citizens were Brian Walsh and his family who had moved to Sydney about eight years ago before deciding three years ago to call Noosa home.”It’s special to have the entire family take its pledge to become Australian citizens as it’s something we have been working towards for several years,” Mr Walsh said.

“We are going to celebrate with a nice lunch at the Marina.”
